Pathfork’s purple patch continues!

6th Feb 2017

Highlands Farms Stud’s resident sire Pathfork has enjoyed a good trot of success with his latest runners.
The former Irish champion’s recent runners included a flurry of nine individual winners, with Pathfork also enjoying a notable double over the past weekend.

First of the progeny of Pathfork to score this past weekend was Master Shotgun, with that Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred 3yo breaking his maiden by a length.
The Alyson Wright trained 3yo, who had second last time out, became the 20th winner to have emerged from Pathfork’s first crop.

Out of the Danehill mare Brandy Butter, Master Shotgun is closely inbred to legendary sire Danzig.

Second Pathfork winner over the weekend came in the form of Gunpowder Plot, who dug down deep to break his duck over 1200m for trainer Duncan Howells at Scottsville on Sunday. The 3yo (a 21st first crop winner for his sire), was bred by Highlands Farm Stud.

Pathfork, whose other notable first crop winners include G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes hero Red Chesnut Road and R430 000 plus earner Elusive Path, has also made a pleasing start with his 2yos this season.

To date the former G1 National Stakes winner has been represented by just three juvenile runners, but two have finished in the money –and, with a host of well bred 2yos still waiting in the wings, the best is still yet to come from this superbly bred son of Distorted Humor!

Pathfork, whose relatives include the top class sires El Gran Senor, Northern Guest, Redoute’s Choice and Whisky Baron’s sire Manhattan Rain, also enjoyed success at the recent Cape Premier Yearling Sale, where three yearlings by him fetched R500 000 apiece.
