Maine Chance Farms’ top-class sire Querari really made his presence felt at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday.
Not only did Querari gelding Questioning win the G3 Race Coast Matchem Stakes (1400m) for a second year in a row, but Querari is also broodmare sire of Saturday’s G3 Schweppes Diana Stakes (1400m) winner She’s My World.
The Vaughan Marshall trained Questioning showed his class in no uncertain terms when he unleashed a devastating turn of foot to win Saturday’s Matchem Stakes.
The defending champion, under Richard Fourie, stormed home to account for a high-class field by two and three quarter lengths.
It was a fine performance from Questioning, who had to miss work prior to Saturday’s race.
Bred by Alec Foster, Questioning races for Greg Bortz, Mukund Gujadhur, the Wernars family and Gina Goldsmith.
Questioning, who pushed his earnings to over R1 000 000 with his latest success, has won seven of 20 starts.
Out of the Captain Al mare Wheredowego, Questioning is bred on the same cross as fellow graded stakes winners Head Honcho and Kampala Campari.
His sire went close to enjoying a feature race double as a sire on Saturday with Querari gelding Congressman (another produced by a daughter of Captain Al) finishing second in the Listed Settlers Trophy.
Querari is also enjoying increasing success as a broodmare sire, and his daughter Lana Belle is the dam of Saturday’s Diana Stakes winner She’s My World (sired by Captain Al’s champion son One World).
South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs in 2018-2019, Querari has nine lots on offer at the Two Year Old Sale.
