Maine Chance Farms’ prominent resident stallion Querari has enjoyed a great season in 2017-2018 and the G1 winning son of Oasis Dream was again making headlines at the Vaal on Thursday.
This time, Querari was responsible for an impressive 2yo winner in the form of the Maine Chance Farms bred filly La Lucia.
The latter, backed down from 27-4 into 2-1 favouritism, really caught the eye when romping home over 1200m to score an emphatic debut win, by 2.75 lengths, for trainer Chesney Van Zyl and jockey Callan Murray.
La Lucia, who was produced by the Cadeaux Genereux mare La Calima, was a R120 000 purchase from the 2017 National 2YO Sale.
The filly is the seventh two-year-old winner for Querari this season, with the sire’s other promising juvenile performers including Listed Ruffian Stakes winner Dagmar, Ruffian Stakes second and third Urban Oasis and River Rafting, and Sentinel Stakes winner Arianos Shadow.
Querari has enjoyed a wonderful season with this 3yos as well-Querari’s sophomores including such graded stakes winners as Wonderwall (G2 Joburg Spring Challenge), Pinnacle Peak (G3 Man O’War Sprint) and exported Gauteng Guineas winner Monks Hood.
A half-brother to G3 winning sire Quasillo and G2 Canadian Stakes winner Quidura, Querari’s third dam Queen To Conquer, winner of 8 races including the G1 Yellow Ribbon Stakes, is also third dam of Thursday’s impressive Listed King George V Cup hero Giuseppe Garibaldi (by Galileo). The latter holds entries in a trio of group races, including the G2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Querari has eight yearlings on offer at the 2018 KZN Yearling Sale.
