Maine Chance Farms (Pty) Ltd’s top-class sire Querari made the perfect start to the 2024-2025 racing season when his daughter Rainbow Lorikeet won the Listed East Cape Paddock Stakes (1600m) at Fairview on Friday.
Winner of last season’s Listed Schweppes Cape Fillies Classic (1800m), the Candice Bass-Robinson trained four-year-old bounced back to winning ways with a stirring performance in Friday’s R150 000 race.
Under Aldo Domeyer, Rainbow Lorikeet stormed home down the centre of the track and hit the front 100m from home. The daughter of Querari stayed on gamely to score by three parts of a length.
The winning jockey said of Rainbow Lorikeet, “She is a nice filly, leggy and scopey but is still learning.”
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Rainbow Lorikeet has now won four of 13 starts for earnings of R464 700.
Out of the Silvano mare Nightingale, Rainbow Lorikeet is bred on the same Querari/Silvano cross as graded stakes winners Bavarian Beauty, Cosmic Light, Cosmic Speed, Homely Girl and Wonderwall.
Her sire Querari, South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs in 2018-2019, had a good year in 2023-2024, with Querari ending up third on the South African General Sires, and his runners earning more than R16.623 million in stakes.
Last season, Querari’s flagbearers were G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe winner Cosmic Speed and G3 World Pool Gold Cup winner Master Redoute.
The son of Oasis Dream has nine lots on offer at the 2024 August Two Year Old Sale.
