Just a week on from his son Monks Hood romping to an authorative 5.5 length win in the G2 Gauteng Guineas, Maine Chance Farms’ red hot resident sire Querari was at it again in major Turffontein feature.

This time it was the Listed Ruffian Stakes, which went the way of Querari’s daughter Dagmar.
The latter made an eye catching winning debut to down fellow Querari fillies Urban Oasis and River Rafting by 2.1 and 5.1 lengths respectively.
A first South African feature race winner for the China Horse Club, the Mike de Kock trained Dagmar was bred by Maine Chance Farms.
Out of the Silvano mare Daffodil Day, the 2018 Ruffian Stakes winner is bred on the same Querari/Silvano cross as stakes winners Cosmic Light, Wonderwall and Joking.
Dagmar, one of three juvenile winners for Querari this season from only a handful of 2yo runners, was a R450 000 buy from the 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

She is the fourth stakes winning 2yo to represent Querari, with others including G2 The Debutante winner Cosmic Light, Dahlia Plate winner Joking and G1 Thekwini Stakes heroine Querari Falcon.
Dagmar was one of two winners for Querari at Turffontein on Saturday, with Querari gelding Romi’s Boy downing graded stakes winners Green Pepper and Trip To Heaven in a pinnacle stakes over 1160m. Now a four time winner, the Klawervlei Stud bred four-year-old took his earnings to over R470 000 with a gritty long head win.
A G1 winning son of Oasis Dream, Querari has outstanding drafts on both the April and National Yearling Sales next month.
His 17 strong April draft includes a colt out of a Galileo granddaughter of Breeders’ Cup winner Phone Chatter (Lot 12), a colt out of a stakes placed Sadler’s Wells mare (Lot 40), and a ½ sister to 2 stakes winners including G3 Tony Ruffel Stakes winner Key Decision (Lot 117).
Querari’s 26 lots on the 2018 National Sale include a full brother to the brilliant Monks Hood (Lot 87), a ½ sister to recent G3 Prix du Cap winner Elusive Heart (Lot 237), and a filly out of a ½ sister to champion and G1 Dubai Sheema Classic winner Sun Classique (Lot 294).
