The Vogel Vlei Stud based Red Ray gained a further boost to his pedigree page when his very close relative Scarlet Chill got off the mark at Greyville on Wednesday.
A 3yo daughter of What A Winter (like Red Ray, sired by Western Winter), the Lammerskraal Stud bred filly stayed on strongly to score her first win by 1.7 lengths, while winning over 1600m for trainer Alyson Wright and jockey Bernard Fayd’Herbe.

Fourth at her previous start, Scarlet Chill (a half-sister to G3 performer Mr Roy) is out of the Rakeen mare Chambre –a dual winning half-sister to not only the G1 winning sire Red Ray, but also to G1 winner Nania and high-class sprinters Bishop’s Bounty and Brutal Force.

One of the best horses of his generation, Red Ray earned over R2 million during a career which saw him win the G1 Mercury Sprint, G3 Cape Classic and Listed Somerset 1200. He was also placed in six G1 races, with these efforts including runner up finishes in the G1 SA Nursery, G1 Cape Flying Championship and G1 Golden Horse Sprint.

Red Ray’s first yearlings come on sale next year.
