Ridgemont Highlands have plenty to be excited about in terms of the stallions they will be showing.
Their five time G1 winning stallion Canford Cliffs, one of the finest turf milers of the century, has made an explosive start with his first South African runners in 2021-2022.
The star miler, whose progeny have already earned more than $33 million the world over, is the Leading First Season Sire for the 2021-2022 season, with Canford Cliffs’ 13 first crop winners thus far including Listed East Cape Nursery/Summer Juvenile Stakes winner Cliff Top.
Captain Al’s star son Malmoos looks an exciting addition to the South African stallion band, with Malmoos set to cover his first book of mares this season. By a multiple champion sire, the regally bred Malmoos, a R4 400 000 yearling purchase, was one of the best horses of his generation, with Malmoos not only landing the World Sports Betting Triple Crown of 2021, but also a further two graded races. Closely related to leading sire Master Of My Fate, Malmoos is out of a stakes winning daughter of champion sire Fort Wood.
From the same female line as Sadler’s Wells, Nureyev, and Fairy King, Potala Palace continues to make waves, despite having a relatively small number of runners to his name, with his star son Katak proving one of the best horses currently racing in Singapore. With some very well bred crops still in the pipeline, and sire of G1 South African Fillies Sprint heroine Singforafa, Potala Palace looks poised for bigger and better things.
The sensational Rafeef is without doubt one of the most exciting stallions standing at stud in South Africa. The regally bred son of Redoute’s Choice and National Colour was Leading First Season Sire of 2020-2021 and is Leading Second Season Sire of 2021-2022. His stellar first crop was headed by G1 winners Aragosta (World Sports Betting SA Derby) and Master Archie (Computaform Sprint), and also includes G3 winner William Robertson, and the likes of Cleaver Greene, Franca, and Whafeef. Rafeef’s sensational second crop is headed by G1 Gold Medallion winner Thunderstruck and classy fillies Glittering Girl and Who Do You Love.
Real Gone Kid is one of the best bred horses retiring to stud in 2022. The speedy six time winner, who beat champion sprinters Rio Querari and Kasimir during his career, is a son of four times Australlian Champion Sire Snitzel, whose growing list of successful sire sons include Shamus Award and Russian Revolutionary. From the famed Party Time family, Real Gone Kid is out of the Jet Master sired Equus Champion, and dual G1 winner, In The Fast Lane.
