The Moutonshoek based Ranvet Stakes winner The United States has come up with a hugely promising filly from his first crop in the form of Sheela.

The latter made it two stakes victories from two starts when downing some talented male rivals to win Saturday’s G2 4Racing SA Nursery (1160m) at Turffontein.
A brilliant winner of the Listed Storm Bird Stakes on debut, the Drakenstein Stud bred and owned Sheela was well fancied to pick up her first graded win and was dispatched tote favourite.

Always travelling powerfully under former champion jockey S’Manga Khumalo Sheela hit the front some way from home and kept going strongly to win cosily by a length.

Now unbeaten in two starts, Sheela claimed the 2021 SA Nursery in a time of 67.13 seconds, and she looks more than worthy to join an illustrious list of fillies who have captured the SA Nursery, one of South Africa’s most storied and prestigious races for two-year-olds.

Trained by Michael and Adam Azzie, Sheela was her sire’s very first runner, and winner, when landing the Storm Bird Stakes back in February.

The United States, who earned over $2.226 million during his career, won or placed in eight group races, and defeated G1 winners Hauraki, Criterion and Mongolian Khan, when victorious in the 2017 G1 Ranvet Stakes.

A full-brother to 1000 Guineas winner Hermosa and dual G1 winner Hydrangea, The United States also accounted for G1 winners Awesome Rock, Harlem, Happy Clapper, Humidor, Palentino and Stratum Star and during his illustrious career.

The flashy chestnut is son of the world’s premier sire Galileo, whose other notable sire sons include Frankel, Nathaniel, New Approach, and Teofilo –as well as Global View, South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2019-2020.
