Stone Hill Stud’s underrated stallion Royal Mo had an eye catching double at Turffontein on Saturday.
The graded stakes winning son of outstanding US sire Uncle Mo had just three runners on Saturday, with Royal Mo supplying two winners with his only other runner on the day, Twentytwentyvision, finishing third in the second race.
Royal Mo gelding Mo Ment has been in excellent form of late, and he made it back to back wins when he won Saturday’s iCredit Middle Stakes (2600m).
Under a fine ride from Malesela Katjedi, the Brett Webber trained gelding stayed on strongly to score by over a length and a half.
Bred by Stone Hill Stud, Mo Ment has now won six of 25 starts, with the five-year-old victorious in three of his last five outings.
Owned by Mrs d’Oliveira, Mo Ment is out of the Greys Inn mare Peach Delight.
Royal Mo is also the sire of the useful galloper Count Huhtikuu, who won the eighth and final race at Turffontein on Saturday.
The James Crawford trained four-year-old made it three wins from just nine starts when he won the Yard Insurance Graduation Plate (1600m) by over a length and a quarter.
In the process, Count Huhtikuu accounted for such smart performers as Solar Sail, Parisian Walkway and Pumpkin Pie.
Bred by Stone Hill Stud, Count Huhtikuu is owned by Mr P Boonzaaier and his breeder.
Saturday’s winner is out of the Bankable mare Banking April, which makes Count Huhtikuu a full-brother to the smart Donna Mo.
Royal Mo was sired by US champion Uncle Mo, whose progeny include G1 Kentucky Derby winning champion Nyquist, one of North America’s top stallions, as well as dual Breeders’ Cup winner Golden Pal. Uncle Mo is also broodmare sire of reigning US Horse Of The Year Thorpedo Anna and this season’s outstanding three-year-old Journalism.
