Saturday feature race double for Master Of My Fate

10th March 2019

Varsfontein Stud’s exciting resident stallion Master Of My Fate has made a cracking start to his stud career and the magnificent son of Jet Master was once again in the headlines at Turffontein on Saturday, where Master Of My Fate’s progeny won both the Listed Derby Trial and Listed Ruffian Stakes respectively.

Twist Of Fate

The Oldlands Stud bred Gift ForThe Gap picked up his first feature race victory when downing some smart and promising three-year-olds to land the Listed Derby Trial this weekend.
The Tyrone Zackey trained sophomore was well back in running early on but quickened up nicely under Marco Van Rensburg to score a half-length win in the 2000m contest, with previously unbeaten colt Last Of The Legend finishing second.

Out of the Fort Wood mare Idler, Gift For The Gap, who took his tally of wins to four on Saturday, was a R200 000 buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale.

His sire Master Of My Fate, whose progeny had won four races the previous weekend, is also the sire of the hugely exciting two-year-old filly Basadi Faith.

The latter, a first stakes winner to have emerged from Master Of My Fate’s promising second crop, made it three wins from as many outings when romping to a 4.5 length win in the Listed Ruffian Stakes for trainer Paul Matchett and jockey Devin Habib.

Bred by the Favour Stud (who also bred the Master Of My Fate sired millionaire Twist Of Fate), Basadi Faith simply played with hot favourite, and impressive debut winner, Gin Fizz to win in the style of a very high class filly.

The 2yo has now won all three starts by an aggregate of nearly ten lengths.

Her dual G2 winning sire Master Of My Fate, whose impressive first crop includes Kenyan classic winner Silverstone Air, was South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire (by winners) in 2017-2018.

The son of Jet Master has four lots on Sunday’s Cape Yearling Sale, and a further 27 yearlings on offer at the 2019 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
