Saturday five timer for Vercingetorix

15th October 2023

Maine Chance Farms’ prominent stallion Vercingetorix made headlines on Saturday when the former Equus Champion came up with five winners on the day. Not only did Vercingetorix sons Jackonory and Abayyaan both win their respective races at Borrowdale Park on Saturday, but their red-hot sire also came up with winners at both Turffontein and Hollywoodbets Durbanville to give Vercingetorix a rare five-timer on one day. Vercingetorix went close to having a six-timer on Saturday with his son Get Impressed finishing second in the third race at Durbanville.

Vercingetorix’s three-year-old daughter Woman Of Power, trained like her sire by Mike De Kock, justified favouritism when she won the first race, the 4Racing Welcomes You Maiden Plate (F&M) (1200m), at Turffontein on Saturday.
Second in each of her only two previous starts, the Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein-bred Woman Of Power raced just off the pace early on in Saturday’s race, before hitting the front close home and going on to win by a length and a quarter.
Woman Of Power is out of the Fort Wood mare Bang Sue.
Vercingetorix also supplied the winner of the first race at Durbanville on Saturday where his Andre Nel trained son Nordic Chief making all to claim the Hollywoodbets Durbanville Welcomes You Maiden Plate (1250m). Making just his third start on Saturday, the gelded three-year-old Nordic Chief stayed on well, under Corne Orffer, to break his maiden by a length and a half.
Bred by Normandy Stud, Nordic Chief is out of the Windrush mare Nordic Wind.
His sire struck yet again when the Vercingetorix sired San Pedro powered home to win the seventh race at Durbanville, the #destinationcaperacing Cape B Stakes (1250m) for Vaughan Marshall and Ashton Arries. Bred by his owner Miss Giddy, four-year-old San Pedro has now won three times from just ten starts.
Out of the Jet Master mare Polar Jet, San Pedro is a full brother to G1 Daily News 2000 runner-up Padre Pio.
Sire of Equus Champions Cousin Casey, Mrs Geriatrix and Nebraas, Vercingetorix has three lots on this week’s Cape Racing Ready To Run And Unbroken Two Year Old Sale, and five lots on sale at the 2023 November Two Year Old Sale.
