Varsfontein Stud’s multiple champion sire Gimmethegreenlight came up with two very impressive looking two-year-old winners on Saturday.
Not only did Gimmethegreenlight filly Grapes Of Wrath win Saturday’s Listed Irridescence Stakes at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday, but his son Gimme Some Luck made it three wins from three starts when winning at Turffontein on the same day.
Blue blooded filly Grapes Of Wrath, a half-sister to champion Charles Dickens, made it two wins from three starts when she won the Listed 1500m feature on Saturday.
Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, the Candice Bass trained two-year-old had won impressively on debut before finishing fourth in the Listed Somerset 1200 on her only other start.
Sent off a well backed favourite for the Irridescence Stakes, Grapes Of Wrath caught the eye with an impressive performance. Despite still green, the Gimmethegreenlight filly, under Aldo Domeyer, unleashed a wicked turn of foot which saw Grapes Of Wrath power home to score by a deceptively easy half a length.
In the process, Grapes Of Wrath, who is out of the Dynasty mare Demanding Lady, became the 82nd stakes winner for her champion sire.
Gimmethegreenlight is also the sire of hugely exciting colt Gimme Some Luck, who maintained his unbeaten record when victorious at Turffontein on Saturday. Under Blaine Marx-Jacobson, the Fabian Habib trained colt turned Saturday’s 4Racing Welcomes You Juvenile Plate (1160m) into a one-horse race.
Gimme Some Luck took command close home and he drew off to score as he liked by five lengths. The Gimmethegreenlight colt, victorious in the 4Racing SA Sales Cup prior to his win on Saturday, has won his three starts by an aggregate of more than 14 lengths.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, the feature race bound Gimme Some Luck is owned by TKP Racing (Nom: Trevelen Pillay), Messrs G J Nassif, J Nassif & Tri-Deal Sixteen CC.
Out of the Shamardal mare Shauntrel, Gimme Some Luck was an R800 000 buy from the 2025 National Yearling Sale.
Gimmethegreenlight has had a fine season with his two-year-olds this season, with the Varsfontein Stud resident’s tally of two-year-old winners this season standing at 16.
