Progeny of Moutonshoek’s G1 winning stallion The United States dominated proceedings in Saturday’s Listed Settlers Trophy (2000m) at Hollywoodbets Durbanville.
The United States supplied three of the eight runners in Saturday’s R225 000 with his sons Miami Summer and Prairie Drawn duly finishing first and second.
Both Miami Summer and Prairie Dawn are trained by Justin Snaith.
The stablemates pulled clear of the chasing pack in the Settlers Trophy and settled down to fight out a desperate finish.
However, progressive four-year-old Miami Summer proved too good for his paternal half-brother and stablemate, with the JP Van Der Merwe ridden gelding staying on smartly to land his biggest win to date by three-parts of a length.
Bred by Normandy Stud, Miami Summer races for Greg and Gina Bortz and Leon Ellman.
The four-year-old, who is out of the Silvano mare Pelaya, was a R600 000 buy from the 2024 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Miami Summer has won eight of eight starts and has been victorious in his last three outings.
His G1 Ranvet Stakes winning sire The United States had an outstanding season in 2025-2026 with his six black type winners including the G1 winners Kingdundee (World Pool Cape Flying Championship) and Tin Pan Alley (G1 Wilgerbosdrift H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes).
A son of Galileo, The United States has nine lots on the October Two Year Old Sale, including a half-brother (Lot 117) to last season’s G1 World Pool Moment Of The Day Premiers Champion Stakes winner Erik Dubois.
