Ridgemont’s exciting young stallion Malmoos has made a promising start with his first two-year-olds this season.
The son of Captain Al came up with a seventh first-crop winner on Thursday when his two-year-old son Kovil won at Turffontein.
Under a well judged ride from Kaidan Brewer, the Mano Pandram owned and trained colt made all in Thursday’s Racing Today Maiden Juvenile Plate (1600m).
Kovil kicked again in the closing stages of Thursday’s race and drew off to score handsomely by two and a quarter lengths.
Bred by Big Sky Ranch, the Malmoos colt was making his fourth start on Thursday.
Kovil, who is out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Mansoor, was a R350 000 buy from the 2025 National Yearling Sale.
His Triple Crown winning sire Malmoos, whose relatives include proven sires Master Of My Fate and Erik The Red, is currently South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2025-2026.
His success could well continue with Malmoos’ fillies Marchland and Within Reach both set to contest next Sunday’s G2 Douglas Whyte Thekwini Stakes.
