Reigning champion sire Silvano enjoyed another remarkable weekend, with his progeny firing on all cylinders in South Africa and son Janoobi running a cracking race at Meydan on Super Saturday.
Winner of the recent G2 Zabeel Mile, Janoobi ran a very game third in Saturday’s G1 Jebel Hatta, to stamp his ticket for the 2018 Dubai Turf.
Despite expected to find the 1800m a touch too far, Janoobi stayed on gamely for third, beaten just 0.75 of a length, and a head, by Blair House and multiple group winner Benbatl.
Janoobi, in the process, accounted for major feature race winners Promising Run, Folkswood and former Sun Met hero Whisky Baron. The Maine Chance Farms bred colt has enjoyed a superb Dubai campaign this season, having also finished second in the 2018 G2 Al Fahdi Fort (behind Jungle Cat- winner of Saturday’s Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint).
Dual champion sire Silvano could be represented by two runners on Dubai World Cup night, with Janoobi a possible for the G1 Dubai Turf, and former SA Derby hero Al Sahem (a smart fifth in Saturday’s G2 Dubai City Of Gold) a likely runner in the G2 Dubai Gold Cup.
Sire of this season’s graded winners Star Express, Strathdon, Bella Sonata and Simply Royal, Silvano was also represented by five South African winners over the weekend.
The champion sire had a treble of winners at Fairview on Friday, with Sabbatical, Silver Goblet and Smart Suzy all winning their respective races. Silvano also enjoyed a Durbanville double where daughters The Boston Rose and Amarosa broke their maidens over 1250 and 1600 metres respectively.
The son of Lomitas also made his mark as a broodmare sire and sire of sires this weekend, with Silvano damsire of Saturday’s impressive Ruffian Stakes winner Dagmar and Silvano’s July winner Bold Silvano sire of Storm Bird Stakes hero Bold Eagle.
Sire of 20 G1 winners (and counting!), Silvano will be represented by 3 lots at the April Yearling Sale, and 26 yearlings at the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
