Sixth G1 winner for Vercingetorix

5th June 2022

Maine Chance Farms’ outstanding stallion Vercingetorix’s remarkable season continued at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Saturday when his son Alesian Chief downed a top-class field of sprinters to capture the G1 Golden Horse Sprint.
In the process, the Corrie Lensley trained three-year-old became Vercingetorix’s sixth G1 winner, and fourth of the current season following Astrix, Chansonette and Pomp And Power.

Under Muzi Yeni, the Ambiance Stud bred colt fought on gamely over the closing stages to score by just over half a length, while defeating such G1 winners as Chimichuri Run, Eden Roc, Battle Force, Good Traveller, Pearl Of Asia, and Warrior’s Rest.

Alesian Chief, whose previous victories had included the 2021 G3 WSB Merchants and 2021 Listed Golden Loom Handicap, has now won five times overall.
The colt, who sports a stallion’s pedigree, is out of the five time winning Var mare All In The Mind.

He is one of 19 stakes winners for his sire Vercingetorix, who is poised to be named South Africa’s Champion Sire for 2021-2022.
A son of multiple champion sire Silvano, Vercingetorix has been responsible for more than 10 black type winners thus far this season, with his progeny having banked more than R13.236 million in 2021-2022 thus far.

The former Jebel Hatta winner has two fillies on offer at the upcoming CTS Farm Yearling Sale, and six lots on the 2022 KZN Yearling Sale.
