Klawervlei’s four time G1 winning stallion Twice Over hails from an outstanding female and the former European champion gained a further boost to his stellar female line when his close relative Tempus captured the G3 Tattersalls Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury on Thursday.
The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at the same illustrious end-of-season meeting is now on the agenda for Tempus following his Group 3 victory. Hollie Doyle was clearly unfazed by Thursday’s blistering hot conditions as she coolly stalked favourite Modern News and then pressed ahead in the closing stages.
Tempus duly drew clear to land the first group race of his career by three-parts of a length.
A gelded son of Kingman, the Archie Watson trained Tempus has now won seven of 16 starts, with Tempus successful in his last two starts.
Tempus is out of G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud/G3 Musidora Stakes winner Passage Of Time, who also ranks as the dam of four time group winner, and promising sire, Time Test.
Passage Of Time, herself a half-sister to G1 Falmouth Stakes winner Timepiece, is out of the Sadler’s Wells mare Clepsydra -a half-sister to the Lingfield Oaks Trial winning dam of Twice Over.
The latter enjoyed a fine season in 2021-2022 where Twice Over’s six black type winners included G1 Cape Guineas winner Double Superlative.
