Ridgemont Highlands’ outstanding young sire Rafeef had a very impressive pair of two-year-olds win at Turffontein on Sunday afternoon.
Remarkably, between them, Rafeef’s two juvenile winners on Sunday scored by an aggregate of nearly nine lengths!

The former G1 Computaform Sprint winner’s first success on Sunday came when his promising son Thunderstruck followed up a third place effort on debut with a scintillating performance to land the first race for Sean Tarry and Calvin Habib.
Despite racing green in the closing stages, Thunderstruck blew away his opponents when storming home to win Sunday’s #ThisIsRacing Maiden Juvenile Plate (1160m) by a decisive four and a half lengths.

Bred by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm, the Rafeef colt was knocked down to Form Bloodstock’s Jehan Malherbe for R1 000 000 at the 2021 National Yearling Sale.

Out of the Var mare Variksate, Thunderstruck is bred on the same Rafeef/Var cross as Rafeef’s recent G1 Computaform Sprint winning son Master Archie.

Rafeef also came up with a good looking debut winner on Sunday when his two-year-old daughter Glittering Girl won as she liked at Turffontein.
Trained, like Master Archie, by Paul Peter, Glittering Girl had Sunday’s Happy Mother”s Day Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1160m) won a long way out and she stayed on powerfully to register a four length win on debut.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Glittering Girl was knocked down to Justin Vermaak for R500 000 at last year’s August Two Year Old Sale.

Closely inbred to Rafeef’s legendary sire Redoute’s Choice, Glittering Girl is out of the Encosta De Lago mare Modern Muse.
