Super Sunday for Querari

29th October 2023

Maine Chance Farms’ G1 winning sire Querari enjoyed a fantastic day on Sunday, with the son of Oasis Dream not only the sire of Sunday’s G3 Cape Classic winner Questioning but also sire of Hong Kong scorer Mr Valiant.
Progressive three-year-old Questioning made it three wins in a row when he won the G3 Cape Classic (1400m) at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Sunday afternoon.
Trained by Vaughan Marshall, the gelded Questioning raced off the early pace, as Bernard Fayd’Herbe settled his mount midfield in Sunday’s R300 000 contest.

Questioning hit the front 200m from home, and, despite drifting outwards, powered home to win as he liked by a length and three-quarters.
His trainer described Questioning as “special” in the post-race interview, and Questioning is now likely to target some of the bigger three-year-old races in the Cape Summer Season.
In landing the 2023 Cape Classic, the Alec Foster bred Questioning became the 37th stakes winner for Querari, twice Leading Sire of Two Year Olds in South Africa.
The well bred Questioning, a winner of three of just four starts, hails from the same crop as G1 Douglas Whyte Thekwini Stakes winner Bavarian Beauty, the first three home in the 2023 Listed Somerset 1200, and Champion Juvenile Cup hero Questor.
Questioning, who is out of the Captain Al mare Wheredowego, is bred on the same Querari/Captain Al cross as graded stakes winners Head Honcho and Kampala Campari.
His sire also enjoyed success at Happy Valley, when Querari gelding Mr Valiant (who raced as Invincabelle in South Africa) stormed home to land Sunday’s Foshan Handicap (five furlongs) under Brenton Avdulla by a deceptively cosy neck.
Bred by Dr Veronique Kritzinger, Mr Valiant, who won twice from just four starts in South Africa, was claiming his first success in Hong Kong when victorious on Sunday.
The gelding was a R450 000 purchase from the 2019 National Yearling Sale.
His bang inform sire Querari has six lots on offer at the upcoming November Two Year Old Sale.
