Black Swan Stud’s inform stallion Elusive Fort enjoyed more feature race success at Turffontein on Saturday, when his three-year-old daughter Big Burn put up a superb display to land the G3 Sycamore Sprint over 1160 metres.

Trained by Paul Peter, Big Burn had been unlucky when finishing second in the Listed Swallow Stakes, after her saddle slipped in the running, and she went one better in Saturday’s sprint for fillies and mares.
Under Warren Kennedy, Big Burn defied top-weight of 61kgs and stormed home to land the second graded win of her career by a decisive two lengths.

Bred by Narrow Creek Stud, the filly has now won five of nine starts, with Big Burn’s previous successes including the G2 Joburg Spring F&M Challenge, Bloodstock SA Sales Cup and The Lady’s Stakes.

A R300 000 buy from the 2020 National 2YO Sale, Big Burn is out of the winning Argonaut mare Ignition Lady, making her a full-sister to exported G2 WSB Dingaans/G3 Tony Ruffel Stakes victor Catch Twentytwo.

Big Burn was one of two winners at Turffontein for Elusive Fort, with trainer Paul Peter also sending out the progressive Elusive Fort gelding Naval Guard to capture Saturday’s fifth race on the card. Bred by Riethuiskraal Stud, the four-year-old romped home to win his second race, from seven starts, by an easy two and a quarter lengths.

Also responsible for this season’s G1 WSB Cape Town Met winner Kommetdieding and this season’s high-class three-year-old filly Sprinkles (like Big Burn, bred by the Narrow Creek Stud), Elusive Fort is currently seventh on the general sires list.
