TAB Gauteng Guineas 1-2 for Vercingetorix

8th February 2026

Maine Chance Farms’ outstanding stallion Vercingetorix continues to dominate feature races in South Africa.
His latest triumph came in Saturday’s G2 TAB Gauteng Guineas (1600m) where Vercingetorix three-year-olds Splittheeights and Grand Empire finished first and second.

The progressive Splittheeights made it back to back graded wins with his Gauteng Guineas success, with the Vercingetorix colt having won the Gr3 Betway Got The Greenlight Stakes on his previous outing.
Trained by Mike (also the trainer of Vercingetorix) and Mathew De Kock, Splittheeights was given a fine ride by Raymond Danielson to win the first leg of the TAB sponsored Triple Crown on Saturday.
Danielson bought his mount with a strong late challenge, which saw Splittheeights stay on strongly to score by just over half a length.
Bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Saturday’s winner has won three of just five starts and looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

Splittheeights, who races for Mr Murugasa, was a R600 000 buy from the 2024 August Two Year Old Sale.

A half-brother to last year’s G1 TAB Computaform Sprint winner William Robertson, Splittheeights is out of the Trippi mare Massachusetts.

He was one of two winners for his champion sire at Turffontein on Saturday, with the Vercingetorix sired G3 Betway Lebelo Sprint winner Taxi To The Moon winning (over Vercingetorix filly Little Ballerina) Saturday’s SA Derby 4 April Pinnacle Stakes (1000m).

Vercingetorix, who had yearlings make up to R9 000 000 in 2025, has a single lot on offer at the Cape Yearling Sale and 23 lots on offer at the Premier Yearling Sale.
