Moutonshoek’s G1 winning stallion The United States had a pair of smart winners at Turffontein on Sunday.
Not only did The United States’ classy son Texas Red win the third race on Sunday, but the stallion’s exciting two-year-old son Tin Pan Alley romped home to a clear-cut win in Sunday’s Highveld Winter Juvenile Stakes (1400m).
Trained by Sean Tarry, Tin Pan Alley was given a confident ride by S’Manga Khumalo.
When Khumalo asked the question, Tin Pan Alley responded and despite hanging, the colt powered home to land Sunday’s R175 000 contest by a widening five and a quarter lengths.
Bred by Moutonshoek, Tin Pan Alley has won two of his four starts, and was fourth in the G3 TAB Protea Stakes.
Racing for Messrs J F & L M F Wernars & D Chinsammy, Tin Pan Alley is out of the Querari mare The Entertainer.
The colt was a R500 000 buy from the 2024 August Two Year Old Sale, and is one of eight two-year-old winners this season for The United States.
The latter is also responsible for high-class five-year-old Texas Red, who downed a smart field to claim Sunday’s #Youcanbetonus! Pinnacle Stakes (1400m).
Under a well judged ride from Kabelo Matsunyane, the Robyn Klaasen trained gelding romped to score by a length and three quarters.
Runner up in the 2025 G1 Wilgerbosdrift H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes, the Nu-Atlas Racing owned Texas Red has won eight of 30 starts for more than R1 000 000 in earnings.
Bred by Moutonshoek, Sunday’s winner is out of the Lundy’s Liability mare True Asset.
The blue blooded The United States, whose relatives include 2025 French classic winner Henri Matisse, went close to having a major update to his pedigree on Friday.
Top class filly Whirly (whose dam Salsa is a full-sister to The United States) followed up her win in the G3 Tattersalls Musidora Stakes by finishing a close second in the G1 Betfred Oaks at Epsom.
