The United States filly wins on debut

6th March 2025

Moutonshoek’s successful resident sire The United States looks to have come up with another smart sort in the form of Amen Corner.
The latter caught the eye when she made a winning debut at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday afternoon.
Under a front running ride from Sean Veale, the Candice Bass-Robinson trained two-year-old was quick into stride and went out to make the running.
The daughter of The United States kept finding in the closing stages, with Amen Corner holding on to score by three-parts of a length.
Bred by Millstream Farm, Amen Corner is out of the Trippi mare Bye Bye Baby and is thus bred on the same cross as G2 4Racing SA Nursery winner Sheela.
The United States enjoyed success with his two-year-olds last season including G1 World Pool Moment Of The Day Premiers Champion Stakes runner-up The Specialist, Listed Dahlia Plate winner Kingdundee and G1 Allan Robertson Championship second place finisher Rodeo Drive.
The son of Galileo went close to having a big payday at Turffontein last Saturday with his son Texas Red finishing a cracking second in the G1 Wilgerbosdrift H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes.
The United States has a single colt on offer at the Premier Yearling Sale but eight lots at the National Yearling Sale.
