Classy three-year-old Trinity College, whose dam Hermosa is a dual G1 winning full-sister to Moutonshoek’s inform sire The United States, picked up his biggest win to date when he won the G3 Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot on Thursday.
Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore brought up a Thursday treble on the day as Trinity College justified 5/2 favouritism in the Hampton Court Stakes.
Sent straight to the front in the 10-furlong Group 3, Trinity College got an easy time of things on the front end, hugging the rail on the bend before skipping into a clear lead.
Tornado Alert was never too far off the speed and Godolphin’s 9/1 chance stuck to his task well in second but was three and a half lengths adrift of the ready winner.
A colt by Dubawi, Trinity College, described as a possible American Derby or Eclipse runner by his connections, had finished fourth in the G1 Qatar Prix du Jockey Club prior to his Ascot win. The colt, who has won three of nine starts, is out of G1 Qipco 1000 Guineas /G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas winner Hermosa, a full-sister to the G1 winners Hydrangea and The United States.
Another full-sister to the above mentioned trio is Salsa, the dam of this season’s G3 Tattersalls Musidora Stakes winner and G1 Betfred Oaks runner up Whirl.
This is also the family of this season’s French classic winner Henri Matisse, who finished second in Tuesday’s G1 St James’s Palace Stakes.
