Moutonshoek’s blue blooded young stallion The United States gained a superb boost to his already impressive pedigree when his 3yo own sister Hermosa won the G1 Qipco 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on Sunday.
In the process, the daughter of Galileo joins the likes of Sceptre, Pretty Polly, Miesque, Salsabil, Sun Chariot, Petite Etoile, Oh So Sharp and Bosra Sham as winners of the Newmarket classic.

A second British classic winner for trainer Aidan O’Brien this weekend, Hermosa went out to make all and she stayed in front, under jockey Wayne Lordan, and duly did just that.

Lordan said after the pair had claimed a one length triumph, “She’s a good filly and was competing at Group 1 level last year, including taking on the colts. She likes to bowl along and saves a little bit. When they came to me she battled well. She’s a beautiful filly by the right sire and finds plenty. It was good.”

Backed into starting a 14-1 shot for Sunday’s race, Hermosa was promptly cut into 7-1 for the 2019 G1 Investec Oaks following her 1000 Guineas triumph.

Winner of the G3 Weld Park Stakes as a two-year-old, Hermosa has now won three of eight outings, with the filly having also finished second in both the G1 Criterium International and G1 bet365 Fillies’ Mile last year.

Remarkably, she is a third G1 winner produced by the Pivotal sired G3 Prix d’Arenberg winner Beauty Is Truth, with Hermosa being a full-sister to the Galileo sired G1 winners The United States (Ranvet Stakes) and Hydrangea (Matron Stakes, British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes).

Beauty Is Truth’s granddam Zelda is a half-sister to G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile hero and champion sire Last Tycoon.

The United States, whose first crop sell as yearlings in 2020, earned over $2 million during his career and shares his outstanding sire Galileo with star sires Teofilo, Frankel, New Approach, and Australia.
