Third winner for Rafeef

16th January 2021

Ridgemont Highlands’ G1 winning stallion Rafeef came up with his third first-crop winner when his two-year-old son Dockofthebay made a winning debut at Turffontein on Saturday.

Bred by Klawervlei, Dockofthebay ran on strongly, under Lyle Hewitson, to get up in the shadow of the post while scoring a short-head win over 1000m.

Dockofthebay, who is trained by Sean Tarry, is out of the Trippi mare Sausalito Bay.

He joins the likes of Bella Chica and Civil Rights as early winners for the very exciting Rafeef, who currently heads South Africa’s Leading First Season Sires List. (Rafeef’s other local starter, Start Of The West has been third and fourth in his only two starts).

Winner of six of just ten starts including the G1 Computaform Sprint and G2 Hawaii Stakes, Rafeef is a son of multiple champion Australian sire Redoute’s Choice, also the sire of outstanding stallions Snitzel and Not A Single Doubt.

Rafeef,  a full-brother to Equus Champion Mustaaqeem, is a son of former South African champion National Colour, and is from the immediate family of ill-fated SA Fillies Nursery winner Basadi Faith.
