Maine Chance Farms’ multiple champion sire Silvano has produced a number of top class fillies over the years, and his daughter Sylvan On Fire became his third Yellowwood Handicap winner when she collected that G3 race at Turffontein on Saturday.
Bred and owned by Vanessa Harrison, the lightly raced Sylvan On Fire made it win number five, from just 12 outings, when withstanding a late charge from runner up Cold Cash to win the 2018 G3 Yellowwood Handicap by a neck.
She was one of two runners in the race for Silvano, with the latter’s previous Yellowwood Handicap winners being Flirtation (2010) and Girl On The Run (2016).
Trained by Candice Dawson, the five-year-old Sylvan On Fire, third in last season’s G3 Acacia Handicap, took her earnings to R502 875 with her first graded win.
Out of the Listed Syringa Handicap runner up Jet Flyer (Jet Master), Sylvan On Fire is bred on the same Silvano/Jet Master cross as exported G2 Betting World Derby winner Silvano’s Jet and Listed Jamaica Handicap winner Omaticaya as well impressive debut winner Hawwaam.
A triple G1 winning son of Lomitas, Silvano had four winners in South African and Zimbabwe over the weekend, with Silvano’s four-timer including a very impressive debut winner in the form of Hawwaaam, who made a big impression on Saturday.
Making his first outing in South Africa’s first ever whipless race, the 3yo Hawwaam defied greenness in the running to win cosily by a length over 1400m at Turffontein.
Trained by Mike de Kock, and ridden to victory by Randall Simons, the Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred Hawwaam was a R1 000 000 buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale.
Silvano also enjoyed success as a sire of sires this weekend, with his Equus Champion son Bold Silvano, whose progeny include 2018 G1 Tsogo Sun Sprint winner Bold Respect, responsible for a pair of winners in South Africa over the weekend.
The sire of four Vodacom Durban July winners, Silvano has a trio of lots on offer at the 2018 CTS Ready To Run Sale.
