Drakenstein Stud’s successful resident sire Philanthropist, Leading All Weather Sire in North America in 2014, had a good day at the Vaal on Thursday when responsible for two smart looking winners.

Both Philanthropist’s winners on Thursday were bred by Klawervlei Stud, trained by Paul Matchett and owned by Fanie Bronkhorst.
The chestnut’s first win on Thursday came when his son Tokolosh proved too quick for his rivals when romping home to shed his maiden by 3.25 lengths over 1000m.
Out of the National Emblem mare Reserved Emblem (and thus inbred to the great mare Grey Flight), the three-year-old gelding had been second at his previous start when beaten only by promising first-timer Ikigai.
Tokolosh’s paternal half-brother Olofberg provided Philanthropist with a second win on the day, when the four-year-old scored a three-parts of a length win over 1450 metres.
Philanthropist’s top-class Hong Kong based son Singapore Sling looks to have a busy season ahead of him this year. Partnered by South African jockey Aldo Domeyer, took part in a barrier trial at Happy Valley on Friday prior to the start of his next campaign.
Now a six-year-old, Singapore Sling will kick off his campaign in the Group Two Oriental Watch Sha Tin Trophy on October 20.
The gelding’s previous successes in Hong Kong include an impressive triumph in the 2018 Hong Kong Classic Cup, with Singapore Sling also finishing second to the brilliant Beauty Generation in the 2019 G1 FWD Champions Mile.
