Trippi colt lands Champions Cup

1st Aug 2021

Drakenstein Stud’s champion resident sire Trippi ended the 2020-2021 racing season in superb fashion when his son Jet Dark won Saturday’s G1 HKJC World Pool Champions Cup (the final G1 race of the South African season) at Hollywoodbets Greyville.

A brilliant winner of the G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate earlier in the season, the Drakenstein Stud bred Jet Dark stamped his Equus Award claims with a tremendous effort in Saturday’s R600 000 feature.

Under S’Manga Khumalo, the Justin Snaith trained three-year-old powered home down the inside of the track to get up and win going away by nearly half a length.

Another high-class three-year-old Catch Twentytwo took second place, with former Horse Of The Year Do It Again running on for third spot.

Jet Dark, winner of the G3 Beaumont Stud Langerman at two, has now won five of just nine starts for earnings of more than R1.134 million.

The colt, who is out of the Jet Master mare Night Jet, was a R200 000 buy from the 2019 National Yearling Sale.

He is one of 83 stakes winners sired by Trippi -South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2015-2016.

Trippi, whose progeny (headed by seven black type winners) earned over R5.679 million during 2020-2021, has a single lot (a three-parts brother to G1 SA Classic winner Lobo’s Legend) on offer at the upcoming August Two Year Old Sale.
