Drakenstein Stud’s champion resident sire Trippi looks to have another smart sort on his hands in the form of Purple Merchant.

The latter made it two wins from two starts when recording a cosy success at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Thursday afternoon.
A three-year-old filly trained by Alyson Wright, Purple Merchant powered home, under Lyle Hewitson, to record a two and a quarter length win over 1200m on Thursday.

Bred by Ms Patterson, Purple Merchant had won her only other start when victorious over 1000m at Greyville back in October.

The filly is out of the Western Winter mare Savannah Air, and is thus bred on the same Trippi/Western Winter cross as G1 SA Classic winner Lobo’s Legend, a winner in Hong Kong on Wednesday.

South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2015-2016, Trippi is currently the sire of nearly 160 stakes horses,and his progeny have earned in excess of $61 000 000 in prize money.
