Trippi’s Super Saturday!

29th Jul 2018

Drakenstein Stud’s champion resident sire Trippi was represented by his 72nd stakes winner at Greyville on Saturday.
Trippi’s latest black type winner came via his impressive 2yo son Chimichuri Run, who romped to a 4.75 length win in the G3 Haval Motors SA Umkhomazi Stakes for trainer Sean Tarry and jockey S’Manga Khumalo.

Chimichuri Run

Bred by Drakenstein Stud, and a R1.1 million buy from the 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, Chimichuri Run stamped himself as an exciting prospect for next season with his facile first feature race victory.

The chestnut had previously been third in both the G1 Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion and G2 SA Nursery, with Saturday’s victory pushing Chimichuri Run’s earnings to R438 625 –with the promise of plenty more to come.

He is one of four black type juveniles representing Trippi this season, with others including unbeaten Perfect Promise Sprint winner Lesedi La Rona.

Trippi went close to enjoying a memorable 2yo double when his progressive daughter Railtrip ran second in Saturday’s G1 Thekwini Stakes, beaten under two lengths by favourite Return Flight. Yet to run unplaced from racetrack outings, the classically bred Railtrip looks a potential Fillies Guineas candidate for next season.

Trippi, South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2015-2016, is no stranger to siring top class two-year-olds, with his previous G1 winning juveniles including all of Afrikaburn, For The Lads and R Heat Lightning, as well the brilliant Queen Mary Stakes winner Jealous Again.

Trip To Heaven

He went close to recording yet another big race win when his top class son Trip To Heaven flew up late to take third placing in Saturday’s G1 Mercury Sprint. The Highlands Stud bred Trip To Heaven, who has now banked more than R2.3 million in stakes, has now won or placed in 11 graded features.

It has been another outstanding season for Trippi this year, with his other notable performers including exported G1 SA Classic winner Lobo’s Legend, G1 Cape Guineas runner up White River, BSA August Million hero Broadway Trip, and Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes winning millionaire Miss Katalin.

He has a single lot, a filly from the same family as Miesque, Alpha Centauri and Study Of Man (Lot 152), on offer at the 2018 National Two Year Old Sale.
