Varsfontein Stud’s top-class stallion Gimmethegreenlight had a day to remember at Durbanville on Tuesday, when he was represented by a trio of winners on that nine race card.
The former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner’s first success came when his Justin Snaith trained son Gimmetherain saluted by an emphatic two lengths in Tuesday’s second race.
Bred by the Klawervlei Stud, the three-year-old Gimmetherain, unplaced just twice from 11 starts, ran on strongly down the inside to register a facile win in an MR 80 handicap over 1000m in the style of a horse capable of building on this win.
Now a three time winner from his last five starts, Gimmetherain was a R1 500 000 buy from the 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
His G1 winning sire’s second win on Tuesday came when 2yo filly Gimme Gimme Gimme shed her maiden impressively in open company. The Candice Bass-Robinson trained juvenile got off the mark at just the third attempt when scoring a cosy three-parts of a length win over 1250m –going away.
Gimme Gimme Gimme is an impressive 14th juvenile winner for Gimmethegreenlight this season, with others including the black type performers Emerald Band, Me Time, Captain Tatters, Green Laser and Emerald Tiara.
Gimmethegreenlight’s third winner on Tuesday came when his 3yo gelded son Gimme Peace broke his maiden by two lengths over 1600m for trainer Dean Kannemeyer and jockey Keagan De Melo to land the seventh race at Durbanville.
A service to the red hot Gimmethegreenlight (South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2015-2016) was knocked down for R85 000 (the third top price of the night) at Monday’s Cape Breeders’ Club Stallion Service Auction.
The sire of nearly 40 black type performers already (including G1 winners Yulong Prince and Gunner), Gimmethegreenlight has nine lots on offer at the 2019 KZN Yearling Sale.
