Klawervlei Stud’s successful sire Pomodoro had a good day on Saturday with the former G1 Vodacom Durban July winner supplying two winners at Turffontein, as well as Saturday’s G3 WSB R10 000 1st Deposit Match Caradoc Gold Cup runner up Black Thorn.

Pomodoro’s first success on Saturday came when his lightly raced son Tattenham Hill won the second race at Turffontein. Trained by Brett and James Crawford, the three-year-old made a mockery of his starting price by powering home to get off the mark, at just the second time of asking, by a length.

A full-brother to promising filly Epsom Girl, Tattenham Hill, who was making his first start in Gauteng on Saturday, was bred by Klawervlei Stud.
Pomodoro struck again in the very next race, when his classy Riverton Stud bred son Indlamu made all to land Saturday’s third race for Pomodoro’s former trainer Sean Tarry and inform apprentice Joshwin Solomons. Racing for Sean Tarry Racing (Pty) Ltd, four-year-old Indlamu kept finding more in the closing stages to hold on gamely and win by a short head, with Pomodoro’s stakes winning son Leopold further back in third spot.

Pomodoro is also the sire of the progressive gelding Black Thorn, who caught the eye when finishing a close up second, to champion stablemate Nebraas in Saturday’s G3 Caradoc Gold Cup.

South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2017-2018, and sire of G1 winners Return Flight and Russian Rock, Pomodoro has had another good season this year thus far, with his flagbearers including promising G3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery winner Epsom Girl.
