Ridgemont Highlands’ prominent young sire Rafeef had a memorable day at Turffontein when he supplied a pair of winners including Bloodstock SA Sales Cup (Non-Black Type) (C&G) winner William Robertson.

Third in the previous week’s G1 Premiers Champion Stakes, William Robertson was well supported to land Saturday’s R400 000 restricted race and the Rafeef colt duly obliged.
Under champion jockey Lyle Hewitson, the Corne Spies trained William Robertson hit the front 100m from home and powered home to score by a head.
Remarkably, the Ridgemont Highlands bred William Robertson beat the Ridgemont Highlands bred Bard Of Avon into second, with another Ridgemont Highlands bred runner, Team Gold, taking third.
Now a two time winner from five starts, William Robertson claimed the R180 000 first prize in a time of 85.11 seconds.
A R500 000 buy from the 2020 National 2YO Sale, William Robertson’s full-brother Marquez comes up for sale at the upcoming August Two Year Old Sale.
Earlier in the day, Rafeef filly Moonshiningthrough made an impressive winning when winning by three and a half lengths over 1160m.
Trained by Johan Janse Van Vuuren, the newly turned three-year-old simply romped home to win as she liked, under Craig Zackey.
Bred by the Narrow Creek Stud, Moonshiningthrough is out of the Tiger Ridge mare Sunset Ridge.
South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2020-2021, Rafeef has 12 lots on the 2021 August Two Year Old Sale.
