Eugene Freeman’s Boland Stud has enjoyed a good spell over the past few days, with the farm’s past three runners having all either won or finished second.
First of the Boland Stud bred runners to win was two-year-old African Warrior (Vercingetorix –Allez Afrique) who followed up a third on debut with a nearly two length romp at Greyville on Sunday.
Trained by Dean Kannemeyer, the gelded African Warrior, who had won a barrier trial on his first racecourse appearance, was a R100 000 buy from the 2018 KZN Yearling Sale and he looks a smart sort in the making.
African Warrior has a half-sister, by Tapit’s multiple graded stakes winning son Coup De Grace, on offer at the 2019 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale which takes place next month.
The Boland Stud bred Dettie (Bold Silvano –So Chic) went close to giving the Ceres farm a quick double when second at Fairview on Monday, before Chevron (Master Of My –Dancette) gave Boland Stud yet another win when victorious at Turffontein on Thursday afternoon.
A three-year-old half-brother to the Boland bred G3 Kings Cup winner Social Order, the gelded Chevron followed up two good efforts when shedding his maiden over 1600m for trainer David Nieuwenhuizen and in-form jockey Gavin Lerena on Thursday.
A R100 000 buy from the 2017 National Sale, Chevron was produced by the Dancing Duel mare Dancette, whose four wins included the G3 Champagne Stakes.
