Maine Chance Farms’ dual G1 winning stallion Erupt continues to churn out juvenile winners, and the son of Dubawi was at it again on Tuesday when Erupt supplied a pair of two-year-old winners at the Vaal.
Second and third on his first two starts, Erupt colt Moonlight Trader got off the mark when he won the Play Soccer 6,10 and 13 Maiden Juvenile Plate (1400m) on Tuesday. Under Rachel Venniker, the Paul Matchett trained two-year-old was always going well and Moonlight Trader hacked up to win by two and a half lengths.
Bred by Big Sky Ranch, Moonlight Trader is out of the Silvano mare Dalaal.
The Erupt colt was a R225 000 buy from the 2023 National Yearling Sale.
Erupt struck again in the very next race when his two-year-old daughter Queen Of Fire justified tote favouritism to win the Champions Day 6 April Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1400m) convincingly. Another for the Rachel Venniker/Paul Matchett combination, Queen Of Fire stayed on nicely to shed her maiden by a length.
Bred by Riethuiskraal Stud, Queen Of Fire, making her fourth start on Tuesday, had finished second before winning on Tuesday.
The filly is out of the Trippi mare Quippi.
At the time of writing, Erupt had been responsible for four two-year-old winners this season, and his two-year-olds You Bring Me Joy and Mount Pinatubo hold entries for the G2 SA Fillies Nursery and G2 SA Nursery respectively.
