Vaal double for Canford Cliffs

21st June 2024

Ridgemont’s inform stallion Canford Cliffs has been firing on all cylinders of late, and the five-time G1 winner was at it again when Canford Cliffs had a pair of winners at the Vaal on Thursday.
Canford Cliffs’ first success on Thursday came when his three-year-old daughter Jasiri stormed home to land the fifth race in convincing style.
Under Gavin Lerena, the Johan Janse Van Vuuren trained filly flew up to win the Racing Today FM 77 Divided Handicap (1000m) by three parts of a length.
Bred and owned by Mr and Mrs Stonebridge, Jasiri is out of the Century Stand mare Marauding Lady.
Canford Cliffs is also the sire of Hillary Step, with that three-year-old filly victorious in the seventh race on Thursday.
Trained by Diane Stenger, Hillary Step made it three wins from just eight starts with a game win in the For Hospitality Bookings Call 011 681 1796 FM Handicap (1600m).
Under Trent Mayhew, the filly fought off a wall of challenges to score by nearly three parts of a length.
Bred by Clifton Stud, Hillary Step is out of the Galileo mare Mrs Everest.
Her sire Canford Cliffs has been enjoying a fine run of form, with the son of Tagula having had 14 winners in June thus far.
The star miler has two colts on offer at the KZN Yearling Sale including a half-brother (Lot 103) to leading G1 Hollywoodbets Durban July hopeful Flag Man.
