Drakenstein Stud’s hugely successful sire What A Winter bookended the meeting at the Vaal on Tuesday, where his son Kinshin Sha won the first race and daughter Inventrix won the last race of the day.
The multiple Equus Champion went close to having a treble on Tuesday with What A Winter’s daughter Rugger Lover finishing third in the second race at the Vaal.
Kinshin Sha was rewarded for consistency when he romped home to land Tuesday’s Betway Insurance Maiden Plate (1000m) by four and a quarter lengths.
The Lucky Houdalakis trained three-year-old had finished second in each of his last three starts prior to Tuesday’s win. Bred by his owner Davy Shawe, Kinshin Sha is out of the Kahal mare Close Relative.
What A Winter filly Inventrix made much of the running in the Next Vaal Racemeeting Thursday 5 October FM 68 Handicap (1200m) in game fashion.
Under a great ride from Piere Strydom, the fought back courageously to score by half a length. Trained by Fanie Bronkhurst, four-year-old Inventrix was bred by Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud.
Inventrix, who had finished third last time out, is out of the Jallad mare Lamarr.
