Vale Anne Nicholas

5th Nov 2022

The South African racing and breeding industry lost a much valued patron with the recent passing of Anne Nicholas.
A colour holder for more than 40 years, Anne and husband Bruce enjoyed notable success with their Hallmark Thoroughbreds.
Hallmark received a Breeders` Achievement award after only three breeding seasons and bred an Equus Award winning champion in sprinter Let`s Rock’N Roll. The latter, a son of Muhtafal, was produced by Hallmark’s magnificent mare First Arrival. Zimbabwe’s champion 3YO filly of 1999, the daughter of Northern Guest produced 10 winners from as many runners, including champions Let’s Rock’N Roll and In The Fast Lane, as well as a further six stakes horses.
First Arrival’s other high-class progeny included G2 Peninsula Handicap winner Light The Lights, also victorious in the G3 Abu Dhabi Championship, and G2 Track And Ball Oaks heroine Keep On Dancing.

First Arrival’s legacy looks set to continue for generations to come with her son Summa Cum Laude (Hadlow Stud) and grandson Real Gone Kid (Ridgemont Highlands) both now standing at stud.
A memorial service will be held for Anne at Christ Church Umhlanga Rocks on Wednesday November 9th.
