Maine Chance Farms’ inform stallion Vercingetorix came up with his 33rd stakes winner when his three-year-old son Marauding Home romped home to an emphatic win in the Listed TAB Hawwaam Stakes run at Turffontein on Saturday afternoon.
The lightly raced colt made it two wins from just four starts when storming home to claim the Hawwaam Stakes, formerly known as the Derby Trial, as he liked by four and a quarter lengths and Marauding Horde looks to have a bright future ahead of him.
Ridden to victory by Marco Van Rensburg, Marauding Horde is trained by Mike De Kock, who also trained Vercingetorix.
Marauding Horde, who was bred by Maine Chance Farms, was a R750 000 buy from the 2022 National Yearling Sale.
Saturday’s winner is out of the Indigo Magic mare My Lady Bluff.
He joins the likes of G3 SplashOut Prix Du Cap winner Double Grand Slam and Listed World Sports Betting Summer Juvenile Stakes winner Roman Agent as recent black type winners for his sire.
Also sire of Equus Champions Cousin Casey, Mrs Geriatrix and Nebraas, Vercingetorix has an outstanding draft on offer at the 2024 National Yearling Sale. His string includes a three-part sister (Lot 88) to former Horse Of The Year Summer Pudding and a half-brother (Lot 89) to another South African Horse Of The Year Captain’s Ransom.
