Vercingetorix colt impresses at Turffontein

22nd January 2022

Maine Chance Farms’ boom sire Vercingetorix continues to come up with smart winners all over South Africa, and the champion son of champion sire Silvano looks to have come up with yet another talented son in the form of Supreme Warrior.

The latter made it two wins from two starts with a fluent victory at Turffontein on Saturday afternoon.
A good winner of his only start, the Michael and Adam Azzie trained Supreme Warrior maintained his unbeaten record in fine style.
Under S’Manga Khumalo, the three-year-old Vercingetorix romped home, under a hands and heels ride, to win Saturday’s TAB Telebet 0861 000 822 MR 97 Open Handicap (1450m) by nearly four and a quarter lengths.

Bred by La Plaisance Stud, Supreme Warrior is out of the Captain Al mare Sovereign Flo, and is thus bred on the same Vercingetorix/Captain Al cross as G1 Allan Robertson Championship winner Vernichey.

A likely classic hope, Supreme Warrior was a R600 000 buy from the 2020 National 2YO Sale.

His sire Vercingetorix, South Africa’s Champion Sire elect for 2021-2022, has had an exceptional year this season thus far, with the former G1 Jebel Hatta winner’s seven black type winners for the season headed by G1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas winner Chansonette.

Vercingetorix has six lots on the Cape Premier Yearling Sale, and seven on the Cape Yearling Sale.
