Maine Chance Farms’ multiple champion sire Vercingetorix was the toast of the sales ring, following the August Two Year Old Sale, which took place at the TBA Complex in Germiston on Thursday and Friday.

South Africa’s reigning champion sire is responsible for Ragazzino (Lot 316), who was knocked down to Form Bloodstock’s Jehan Malherbe for R6 000 000 to top the 2026 August Sale.
Consigned by Varsfontein Stud, the blue blooded two-year-old, a three-parts brother to last season’s G3 Langerman winner Aquae Calidae, is out of Ciao Bella, a G2 winning daughter of Gimmethegreenlight and champion Bela-Bela. (Bela-Bela is also the dam of Aquae Calidae -winner of two of three starts).
Ragazzino, whose third dam is outstanding broodmare Mystic Spring, was one of three lots by Vercingetorix to make upwards of R2 000 000 at the August Two Year Old Sale.

The Maine Chance resident is also the sire of the sale’s top priced filly, with the Millstream Farm consigned filly (Lot 130) out of Palace Of Dreams knocked down to Form Bloodstock for R2 600 000.
A full-sister to both last season’s G1 HKJC World Pool SA Classic winner Grand Empire and Equus Champion Palace Of Arvernia, the pricey filly is out of G3 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Palace Of Dreams. The latter was crowned South Africa’s Champion Broodmare for 2025-2026.

Vercingetorix ended the 2026 August Two Year Old Sale as the Leading Sire by both Aggregate and Average.
His eight lots to sell made R16.2 million while averaging an impressive R2.025 million.

Vercingetorix is also the sire of Listed Irridescence Stakes winner Ukuduma, who was knocked down to Ascot Stud for R2 000 000 to top Thursday’s Select Virtual Filly & Mare Sale.
