Not for the first time, Maine Chance Farms’ champion sire Vercingetorix dominated proceedings at the recently concluded National Yearling Sale.
The champion son of multiple champion sire Silvano ended the 2026 National Sale as Leading Sire by Aggregate, with Vercingetorix’s National Sale yearlings grossing R46.2 million.
Remarkably, Vercingetorix yearlings averaged an impressive R1 593 103, with the Maine Chance resident responsible for no fewer than 16 yearlings to sell for R1 000 000 or more.
Vercingetorix was responsible for the three top lots sold at this year’s National Yearling Sale.
His Lammerskraal Stud bred son Red Trix (Lot 163) was knocked down to Form Bloodstock for R5.25 million to top the National Sale.
A half-brother to the smart performer Rondebosch (by Gimmethegreenlight), Red Trix is out of G1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes winner Redberry Lane (by Western Winter), with the latter a full-sister to dual Guineas winner Solo Traveller.
Vercingetorix filly Sent Flying (Lot 195) was knocked down to Adam Marcus Racing for R4.75 million, making her the top priced filly sold off the 2026 National Sale.
Consigned by Varsfontein Stud, Sent Flying, closely related to the Vercingetorix sired champion Double Grand Slam, is out of G1 Premiers Champion Stakes winner Sentbydestiny.
South Africa’s reigning champion sire, Vercingetorix had also provided the top lots sold at both this year’s Cape Yearling Sale and Premier Yearling Sale.
