Maine Chance Farm’s top-class stallion Vercingetorix came up with his 32nd stakes winner when his daughter Double Grand Slam won the G3 SplashOut Prix du Cap (1400m) at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.
The Prix du Cap was a great result for Vercingetorix, whose champion daughter Mrs Geriatrix ran fourth to her paternal half-sister Double Grand Slam.
Trained by Justin Snaith, three-year-old Double Grand Slam had finished fourth on debut before winning her next two starts and went on to finish second in the G2 Western Cape Fillies Championship.
An unlucky third in the G1 City Of Cape Town Majorca Stakes last time out saw Double Grand Slam primed for a big effort in the Prix du Cap and so it proved.
Under Grant Van Niekerk, Double Grand Slam powered home to score emphatically by three lengths.
Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Double Grand Slam has now won three of eight starts.
Double Grand Slam, a R1 000 000 buy from the 2022 National Yearling Sale, is out of the Captain Al mare Princess Peach and is thus bred on the same Vercingetorix/Captain Al cross as high-class fillies Vernichey and Golden Sickle.
She joins the likes of G1 winners Chansonette, Mrs Geriatrix, and Vernichey as a high-class filly sired by Vercingetorix.
