Vercingetorix filly lands Summer Bowl

25th November 2024

Maine Chance Farms’ star sire Vercingetorix is having another great season in 2024-2025, and the son of Silvano struck again on Saturday.
Vercingetorix filly Double Grand Slam showed her class when downing a high-class field to win the Summer Bowl at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth.
Runner-up on her seasonal debut, the Justin Snaith-trained four-year-old was given a confident ride by Richard Fourie in Saturday’s R180 000 contest for fillies and mares.
Racing midfield early on, Fourie bought Double Grand Slam with a sustained late run down the middle of the track and the pair went on to score comfortably by half a length.
Bred by Varsfontein Stud, the classy Double Grand Slam has won six of 14 starts for earnings of R1,299,338.
A R1 000 000 buy from the 2022 National Yearling Sale, Double Grand Slam picked all of the G3 SplashOut Prix Du Cap, G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes and G2 East Coast Radio Tibouchina Stakes last season.
Out of the Captain Al mare Princess Peach, Double Grand Slam is bred on the same Vercingetorix/Captain Al cross as such high-class performers as Vernichey, Golden Sickle, and Mia Moo.

Vercingetorix’s great run continued at Borrowdale on Sunday when his four-year-old daughter Hildelita won the Listed Sable Flyers over 1260 metres.
Currently South Africa’s Leading Sire by stakes for 2024-2025, Vercingetorix is also responsible for this season’s G2 Betway Joburg Spring F and M Challenge winner Celtic Rumours, Listed Woolavington Stakes hero Daimyo, G3 Cape Mile winner Rascallion, G3 Cape Classic runner up Boundless Energy and Listed Settlers Trophy victor Call To Unite.
At the time of writing, Vercingetorix runners had earned R7 664 013 for the current South African season.
