Maine Chance Farm’s multiple champion sire Vercingetorix has made a fine start to the new season and the champion son of Silvano enjoyed more feature race success at Turffontein on Saturday.
Vercingetorix’s four-year-old daughter Anchorage caught the eye when flying up to land Saturday’s Betway The Lady’s Stakes (1200m).

Trained by Candice and Tammy Dawson, the filly was given a fine ride by Gavin Lerena.
Lerena dropped Anchorage out in a bid to overcome a wide draw, and brought Anchorage home with a powerful late finish to get up and win Saturday’s R150 000 contest by more than three-parts of a length.

Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Anchorage is a full-sister to Fifty Fiver, winner of the 2021 CTS De Grendel Ready To Run Stakes.

The pair were produced by Polar Trip, a daughter of recently deceased champion sire Trippi.
Anchorage, who has won three of 12 starts, is owned by Dave MaClean, Larry Nestadt, Gary Player Stud Farm (Pty) Ltd & Reon Barnard.

Champion Sire in South Africa for the past two seasons, Vercingetorix enjoyed a double at Turffontein on Saturday with his son Navaseven winning the eighth race.
