Maine Chance Farms (Pty) Ltd’s outstanding stallion Vercingetorix had a day to remember when he came up with four winners on Saturday.
Heading Vercingetorix’s winning quartet was classy mare Celtic Rumours, who ran out a game winner of Saturday’s G2 Betway Joburg Spring F&M Challenge (1450m) at Turffontein.

Trained by Sean Tarry, five-year-old Celtic Rumours picked up her biggest win to date when victorious in Saturday’s R450 000 feature. Under a good ride from Gavin Lerena, Celtic Rumours hit the front close home and stayed on gamely to hold off the promising three-year-old Fiery Pegasus and win by a neck.
Celtic Rumours was winning for a fifth time in 15 starts, with the Vercingetorix mare having now banked R659 750.
Bred by Peter de Beyer, Celtic Rumours is out of the Dupont mare Sylvie.
She is the 43rd stakes winner for Vercingetorix, whose son Call To Unite ran out a smart winner of the Listed Settlers Trophy a few weeks ago.
Celtic Rumours was one of four winners for her prolific sire on Saturday, with Vercingetorix coming up with two winners at both Hollywoodbets Durbanville and Turffontein on Saturday.
Mia Moo, a stablemate to Celtic Rumours, showed her class when that four-year-old filly defied a lengthy layoff to win Saturday’s Betway Graduation Plate (1200m) at Turffontein.
Runner up, to fellow Vercingetorix filly Double Grand Slam, in last season’s G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes, the Sean Tarry-trained Mia Moo was always travelling nicely in Saturday’s race, and, when Craig Zackey asked the question, she quickened up smartly to win by a length.

Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Mia Moo is out of the Captain Al mare Leeward. She is thus bred on the same Vercingetorix/Captain Al cross as such high-class performers as Vernichey, Golden Sickle and the aforementioned Double Grand Slam.
The inform Vercingetorix also struck twice at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday, where his daughter Champagne Kisses captured the third race, and his son Boundless Energy romped home to land the seventh race impressively.
Trained by Candice Bass-Robinson, the Maine Chance bred Boundless Energy made it two wins from just three starts when storming home to land Saturday’s Team Blu Syndicate Class 4 (1400m) convincingly by three-quarters of a length.
The three-year-old is out of the Dynasty mare Bella Spumante.
His sire Vercingetorix, runner-up on the South African General Sires premiership last season, is currently second on the General Sires list for 2024-2025.
