Visionaire filly wins on debut

4th June 2019

Lammerskraal Stud’s G1 winning stallion Visionaire had a smart looking debut winner on Tuesday when his two-year-old daughter Spiritofthegroove ran out a ready winner of the first race at the Vaal Classic track.

Bred by Tmen Stables, the filly ran on strongly to make a winning debut, in open company, over 1000m for in-form champion trainer Sean Tarry.

Spiritofthegroove, who is out of the National Assembly mare Band Of Angels, stayed on nicely to win first time out by three-parts of a length in pleasing fashion.

The filly is the fifth juvenile winner in 2018-2019 for Visionaire, with others including debut winners Gaian Glory and Minnesota Dream.

South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire in 2014-2015, and Leading Second Crop Sire the following season, Visionaire gained a further boost to his pedigree on Monday when two-year-old Toro Strike shed his maiden at Thirsk over six furlongs. Making just his second start, having finished fifth on debut, Toro Strike (by Toronado) is out of G3 Providencia Stakes winner Scarlet Strike –a Smart Strike half-sister to G1 winners Tara’s Tango and Visionaire.

The latter has seven lots on offer at the 2019 KZN Yearling Sale, due to take place at the Sibaya Casino next month.
