Weekend double for champion sire

3rd Apr 2017

Drakenstein Stud’s champion resident sire Trippi had a notable double this past weekend, when two of his offspring put up eye catching efforts when scoring at Kenilworth and Scottsville respectively.

First of the two Trippi daughters to score this past weekend was the Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm bred Live Life, who defied top weight of 61kgs to win an allowance plate over 1200m by three parts of a length. The three-year-old filly, who races for Hunky Dory Investments, will now bid to become the second daughter of Trippi to land the G1 City Of Pietermaritzburg Fillies Sprint at Scottsville later in the season –Trippi’s daughter Real Princess having won that 1200m contest last year.

Live Life, winner of both the G2 Cartier Sceptre Stakes/CTS Sprint earlier this season, has now won five (including her last three in a row) of just ten outings and has banked more than R3.7 million in stakes.

She is bred on the same Trippi/National Assembly cross as stakes winners Agra and Franny.

Just one day later, Trippi’s son Summer Sky, bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, made it back to back victories when romping home to score an effortless five length win over 1400m at Scottsville.

Summer Sky (his sire’s only runner at Scottsville on the day) is a full brother to G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes winner One Fine Day. He has been entered for next weekend’s G3 Byerley Turk.

Last season’s Champion Sire, Trippi’s 65 plus stakes winners include champion Hammie’s Hooker, as well as five time G1 winner Inara, and fellow G1 winners Afrikaburn, For The Lads, and Real Princess, as well as this season’s top class performers Gold Standard and Trip To Heaven.

He has seven lots on the upcoming Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale including a filly (bred like Trippi’s star sprinter Trip Tease) out of a seven time stakes winner (Lot 15) and a colt from the same family as outstanding US sires Fappiano and Quiet American (Lot 38).

The champion’s six strong draft at next month’s National Yearling Sale includes a colt out of  G1 winning champion Laverna (Lot 12), a colt out of a five time stakes winning daughter of Rock Of Gibraltar (Lot 277), a filly out of a stakes placed Galileo mare from the family of champions Oasis Dream and Kingman (Lot 427) and a filly out of a French stakes winner (Lot 460).
