Weekend four-timer for Gimmethegreenlight

1st Oct 2018

Prominent Cape sire Gimmethegreenlight, not for a first time this year, enjoyed a memorable weekend this past week when responsible for four winners.

Gimmethegreenlight’s Surcharge

The 2012 G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner’s quartet was headed by National Park’s impressive score in the Racing Association Plate over 1400m at Fairview on Friday.
The talented 3yo, who was demoted from first to second in last season’s Listed Champion Juvenile Cup, confirmed himself as one of the better 3yos currently racing in the Eastern Cape when romping home to a three length victory –at the expense of Champion Juvenile Cup winner and East Cape champion Madame Speaker!

Now a winner of three of just seven outings, the gelded National Park, who is out of the Camden Park mare Fancy Park, was bred by the Missing U Syndicate.

His boom sire Gimmethegreenlight, whose talented, Listed In Full Flight runner up son Purple Tractor won at Champ de Mars on Saturday, also enjoyed success at both Durbanville and Greyville this weekend.

His son Ready Steady Go picked up the fourth win of his career when scoring for trainer Harold Crawford and jockey Greg Cheyne at Durbanville on Saturday, while one day later, another Gimmethegreenlight son, Cat’s Legacy, made similar headlines at Greyville. The gelded four-year-old Cat’s Legacy made it back to back wins when saluting by a neck over 2400m.
Bred by Danika Stud, Cat’s Legacy, who clearly enjoys going over a trip, had previously scored a 6.5 length win at his previous outing. Unbeaten under jockey Anton Marcus, Cat’s Legacy is out of the Al Mufti mare Lanari Legacy.

South Africa’s Champion First Crop Sire of 2015-2016, Gimmethegreenlight has an exceptionally well bred crop of two-year-olds representing him this season.
The G1 winning son of outstanding stallion More Than Ready’s juveniles in 2018-2019 include 2yos out of such high class racemares as Dubawi’s G3 winner Amber Orchid, the speedy stakes winner Comet Chaser, G2 Southern Cross Stakes heroine Fairyinthewoods, G1 Empress Club Stakes winner Fair Maiden, SA Fillies Classic runner up Las Ramblas, and Equus Champion Night Diva.
